Getting Started
- Choose your situation. Start from the home screen and pick a part: Scenes, Light, Challenges, or Techniques.
- Find your guide. Browse chapters or use search to find the specific situation you're facing.
- Work through the checklist. Tap items as you complete them. Your progress saves automatically.
- Check the settings table. Use the recommended starting points, then adjust based on your conditions.
- Bookmark favorites. Tap the bookmark icon to save guides you use often.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the app work offline?
Yes. All content loads from your device. No internet connection required. This is intentional—cell service is unreliable in most good landscape locations.
How do I reset a checklist?
On any section screen, tap the reset icon near the checklist header. This clears all checked items for that section only.
Can I sync my bookmarks and checklists across devices?
Not currently. Bookmarks and checklist progress are stored locally on each device. Cloud sync may be added in a future update.
The settings don't match my situation exactly. What should I do?
The settings tables are starting points, not rules. Every scene is different. Use them as a baseline, check your histogram, and adjust from there. When in doubt, bracket your exposures.
Why isn't [specific topic] covered?
Field Book focuses on capturing images in the field. Post-processing, camera operation basics, gear reviews, and astrophotography beyond basic night landscapes are outside the current scope. The goal is focused, practical guidance—not comprehensive coverage of everything.
Will there be updates with new content?
Possibly. If new sections are added, they'll come through app updates. Current owners will receive any content additions at no extra charge.
Is there an Android version?
Not yet. If there's enough interest, an Android version may be developed. For now, the app is iOS only.

Troubleshooting
App is slow or unresponsive
Try closing and reopening the app. If the problem persists, restart your device. The app is designed to be lightweight, so performance issues are rare.
Search isn't finding what I expect
Search looks at section titles and situation descriptions. Try simpler terms. For example, search "fog" instead of "foggy morning at the lake."
My bookmarks or checklist progress disappeared
This data is stored locally on your device. If you deleted and reinstalled the app, or restored your phone from a backup that didn't include app data, this information may be lost. Unfortunately, it can't be recovered.
